Originally from Dayton, Ohio, I attended the University of Cincinnati College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP), where I alternated semesters of school and full-time work experience.
My passion for design is rooted in punk rock, skateboarding and the DIY ethos that comes with being part of those communities. I spent countless hours of my high school years sitting in front of an old Dell computer that sounded like it would blow up at any moment, customizing Myspace pages for all the fake bands (solo projects?) I had. I would use art I made in an old, pirated version of Photoshop while simultaneously downloading music (probably Less Than Jake) using virus-laden software. I had no clue what design was or that I was sort of doing it.
Today I have a better computer with real software, actually pay for music and have an idea of what design means to me (“Design is the rendering of intent” - Jared Spool). I do my best to live an active, balanced life between my two equally creative and challenging passions: problem solving design work and the personal artistic expression of playing music.
